Roxie Report August 14, 2008

Before I had Roxie, I had Beans.  I had always wanted a dog but knew my social calendar did not make that a good idea.  So when I happened upon a woman in the cafeteria at work who mentioned that she was looking to give away a kitten I jumped at the chance.  She mentioned he was feral and that she had rescued him from outside.  At the time, I didn’t really understand what feral meant, but I would soon learn.

It wasn’t long before Beans started acting out.  Although I fed him and gave him a warm bed to sleep in, Beans wanted no part of Casa di Babsalonia.  Every time I would come home, he would dart out the door.  The first time he did it I freaked out.  But he was a fraidy cat and only went to the end of the walkway.  This went on for several weeks.  I would come home and he would leave, only managing to get ten feet from the house.  I quit chasing him because he always came back with little coaxing.  The last time it happened, I had come home with a bunch of groceries and went straight to the kitchen to put the bags down and put the groceries away.  5-10 minutes had gone by and Beans was not in the window looking at me.  I went outside to get him and Beans was gone.  I called him, I looked for him, I left the door open all evening and Beans didn’t return.  I guess he just wanted to be free.  I never saw him again.

Until Tuesday morning.

I was out taking Roxie for her early morning walk.  We stopped at one of the many doggie poo areas.  Roxie was standing next to a giant bush/tree sniffing and getting ready to handle her business when a black paw swiped out at her from the trees.  She and I were both started and jumped.  Then a black cat slowly emerged from the bushes.  I can’t say for sure if it was Beans.  It was, after all, just a black cat and he was much bigger than Beans was.  But the way that cat was looking at me turned me and Roxie on our heels and we headed straight back to the crib.

Now whenever I am walking Roxie, I am looking around every corner.  I will protect what’s mine.  I have no problem crushing that cat if it steps out of line.  If there is one thing I can’t stand, it’s sneaky azz cats.  Of any color.

Too funny. Beans must be a man. They leave, forget what good a thing they had at home and always try to come back. But Babs has moved on. *wink* LOL

awwww poor beans. LMAO though at the cat attacking. Cats are funny creatures. There are two cats in my neighborhood whose owners let them “hang out” outside and one of them was being attacked by a bird not too long ago. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. I think the bird was seeking revenge.
