Sunday evening, just as I was taking Regan out of the bathtub, our lights began to flicker. Then they began to groan. Then they went dark. Regan, of course, was immediately freaked out. “It’s dark momma!” I wrapped a towel around her and we went downstairs to find my battery-operated lantern. I bought that lantern back during Hurricane Katrina. I was living in an apartment and my power was out for two days. That thing totally saved me. It lights up an entire room.
After I got her dressed and situated on my bed, I pulled out the portable DVD player. Thankfully, I had charged it the day before for our Saurday outing. She asked for a pink popsicle so I grabbed one (half really) from the freezer and set in for our “adventure”. She watched her puppy dog DVD and ate her popsicle while I did her hair. After I was done we both got under the covers and snuggled while we watched Beauty and the Beast.
The power was out for about two hours and it was starting to get very cold, but I didn’t mind one bit. I never get that much snuggle time with my baby. She would periodically lean in and give me a big smoocher. We were happy!
So much so, that when the lights did finally come back on, I hopped out of bed, turned all the lights back off and got back in bed to finish watching our movie.
I think we have a new tradition.

How sweet. I love it!
