Last night the Crew and I met up at RA Sushi for their happy hour specials and trendy midtown scene.  Sister Safety and MiMi joined us because we had some celebrating to do. (more…)

I had intended to take a picture of the delicious pan of enchiladas just as they came out of the oven, but I had a house full of hungry friends and I wanted to hurry up and the get the food plated and served.

I had intended to take a picture of my friends as they enjoyed their delicious enchiladas, but I was too busy scarfing them down myself.

So this is what we have left: an empty pan of once-delicious enchiladas and two empty bottles of cuervo margaritas.

Good times!

The Crew (and the Intern) started arriving around 6pm and in true Crew fashion did not leave until midnight.  They enjoyed chips, salsa, queso, enchiladas, mexican rice and margaritas.  It’s been a while since I’ve entertained and it felt good to get back in the saddle.  I love to prepare a tummy-pleasing meal.  I love fixing plates and serving my guests.  And I love to hear the silence of people digging into their plates.

As usual we were laughing and hollering.  I had to remind them more than once that I do not live in a single family home.  I’m sure my neighbor is cussing me out this morning, but it was worth it.

It was a great way to kick off the holiday weekend and I can’t wait to do it again.

Last night, Deuce invited us to meet for dinner to meet her baby brother who is in town visiting.  A few of us met for dinner and finally got to meet the apple of Deuce’s eye.

It was funny watching the dynamic of a brother and sister.  They were playfully chiding each other for most of the night.  They even made the same facial expressions!  And even though he is a grown azz man, I still felt like he was a baby brother.

As I watched them I thought about all my friends, past and present, and that they have always had sisters.  Rarely any brothers, and those that did have brothers I never saw them interact.

What I remember from the sister interactions was a lot of fighting.  Bickering.  Arguing.  Whatever.  I was always happy that I didn’t have any sisters for that reason, but I always wanted a brother.

After seeing Deuce and her brother last night, I still wish I had a brother.

Do you have brothers or sisters?  Do you get along?

I know I’ve said it before, but I love my friends.  Really and truly.  I could not ask for a better set of friends.

Last night I sent out an S.O.S.  It was cryptic.  Something to the effects of “there’s about to be a situation” and “please come now”.

Without pause, CaliSlim and the Intern were on the road.  Within twenty minutes they were rolling up to my house and didn’t even know what they were rolling up to.  Then things went down and they never left my side.  Not once.

Rehab and Safety were on the horn because of my FB update and rolled up to the house 30 minutes later.  They stayed with me as I talked everything out.  They are so supportive and I am so lucky to have them for friends.

Do you have backup?

Saturday evening, a handful of Safety’s closest friends and family got together to celebrate her latest accomplishment.  She recently obtained her Master’s Degree (with Distinction I might add).  Sister Safety and Mister Safety organized a fun gathering at a local thai restaurant.  The restaurant is one of my favorites, and 7 minutes from my home, so I was really looking forward to it.

There's no place like home!

There's no place like home!

Upon seeing me, the Intern commented that I looked like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.  I would *smh* at him, but he was kinda right.  A modern day, chocolate Dorothy in the South.  Instead of being swept away in a tornado, I was being suffocated by the heat.  It’s hot outside dammit!

But I digress.

We had a fabulous time.  The food was good and the conversation was great.  Safety was totally surprised and was thankful for everyone coming out to show her love.  I was happy to see the Keyaluses.  Only 11 more weeks until the baby arrives!  And of course I enjoyed quality time with the Intern, even though he doesn’t love me as much as I love him.

Today is the actual graduation day for Safety.  She bestowed a little gift on us by telling us we totally didn’t have to come to the ceremony.  Now I love Safety like we are blood-related, but when she told me I didn’t have to drive the hour in the hot sun AND attend a three-hour ceremony I almost jumped for joy.

Congratualtions, Safety!  I see big things in your future!

I love you!

Today is my blog wifey’s birthday!

Although she won’t get her own blog, and she has seriously been slipping on her duties as a freelance writer, I love her dearly.

I don’t know if I am allowed to post her pic, so here is a pic of her bad azz shoes…

Stankonia!

Happy Birthday, TIH.  May this be the best year yet!

I’m pretty bad about checking my mail.  Let’s face it, how often is there anything good?  But tonight I was pleasantly surprised to find a package waiting for me.  Inside were some treats from La Licious:

Who is the sweetie who sent me the smell goods?  Gladys!  I heart Gladys, and not just because she sends me get well presents, but she is genuinely a nice person.

Thanks, Gladys!  I’m looking forward to my next shower!
