Swept Away and Other Birthday Fun

Hey y’all! (I’ve been living in the South for 8+ years, I can say that now)  I’m wrapping up what has been a pretty adventurous birthday here in South Florida.

At midnight, we were up playing cards when Babs’ day rolled around.  We promptly opened up a bottle of bubbly and had a dance party.  Even though I was exhausted when I went to bed, I started the day with another walk/run.  It was pretty windy and sprinkling, but it felt good to start the day out getting my blood pumping before the eatdrinkcake fest commenced.

My mom and aunt made a feast for breakfast and then I headed outside to relax on the beach and read a book.  Two minutes later I hot footed my tail right on back in the house.  It was windy outside!

The rest of the morning was spent with eyes glued to the tv so we could watch the path of the looming storm.  We heard that our island was being evacuated and the birthday girl may or may not have started crying like a baby.  However, after consulting with the property manager and a couple of locals, we decided to tough it out at the house.

We made our way to a local restaurant for a tasty lunch and cocktails.  Shrimp tacos, anyone? After we returned home there was cake and presents.

Now we are hunkered down in the house ready for the remnants of the tropical storm to bring some water our way.  Hopefully, I’ll be beach side with my toes in the sand by Tuesday morning!
