Why I Don’t Comment On Your Blog

There are many blogs out there that I would love to comment on regularly, but I don’t.  It’s not that I don’t want to weigh in on whatever your topic of the day is.  It’s that you make it too damn difficult.

I just finished reading a blog post and wrote a pretty lengthy comment only to discover that the person has set the parameters for posting comments to a) using a google ID or b) have an open ID.  Why can’t I just leave my name and email addy?

I hate blogger.  Hate it.  I started out using blogger, but after I discovered the greatness that is wordpress, I left and never looked back.  Blogger makes you jump through too many hoops just to leave a comment.  That captcha crap?  Who has time for that.  WordPress will take away your spam problems, yo.

The other reason I don’t comment on your blog is because I don’t read it.  I don’t read it because you only let me read the first three sentences in my google reader.  I get that you want me to click the post to read to generate more traffic but, newsflash, I do most of my reading at work.  I’m not trying to click on a bunch of blogs at the plantation.  I like to be able to read the posts in their entirety and then leave a comment if I feel compelled.

Okay, I just wanted to get that off my chest.  It’s so frustrating not being able to read/comment as I wish.  I just wanted you to know why I don’t.

I totally feel you on this one. When folks make commenting and/or entering contests difficult? They may win some, but they just lost one. Aint nobody got time for that!

I am on blogger and I try to make it as easy as possible. I dont have a problem with spam so I dont have any of that captcha stuff on mine.
I definitely agree about the reader thing. I try to support a few people but not being able to read in my reader is a big detrerance to me reading your blog. Some people need to get the point.

That about sums it up for me as well.

I don’t read as many blogs as I used to but I agree now that I’m no longer blogging myself I don’t want to always “sign” in to a site to leave a comment.

This was so on point! There are a few I will read when they have a few sentences. I usually end up deleting them eventually. It pisses me off when I have typed a reply and all that mess comes up. People think you are trying to be “anonymous”. I am not, it just the easiest way to leave my comment.

I completely understand!!! Your blog and maybe two other blogs I read out of maybe 10-15 blogs have easy access to commenting. Thanks for understanding and giving me a chuckle too.

I agree! I don’t know why but I have huge issues with blogger and not allowing me to leave a comment. This usually happens when my comment is awesome and profound.

The ones that only give a preview in a google reader I don’t read unless I am bored and then I go to the site and catch up. But then it’s so late that I don’t comment.

  8. laughing808 says:

I agree, especially in regards to viewing the posts in my reader.

    What she said!

I’ve always wondered why I have to ‘click here to read the rest of this post’. So that’s what folks are doing to generate traffic. I read a fashion blog and I hate this. I’m with you on having to jump through hoops just to leave a comment. I’m like ‘eff it’. I’ll just continue to read and leave it at that. I can’t be bothered.

And I hope the 10 people that read my blog, that my posts show up in their entire format in Google Reader.

  12. Kurlylicious says:

I have the issue in WordPress too!

  13. Cassandra says:

How do you know if your blog does the preview vs. the whole thing showing up? I assume that’s a parameter you have to set up? #inquiringminds

I totally agree. If it’s too difficult to comment, people just won’t. Most people don’t have the time, or don’t want to bother to take the time to give everything but their social ss# just to say, “Oh that was really funny.” BTW, do you do book reviews? Just wondering. I’ve got a new book out BEHIND CLOSED DOORS by K.F. Johnson and I’ve read/commented on a few of your blogs and you seem like the type who might read it while on vacay or chilling waiting on your next new date to show up. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll send you a copy.

  15. Maz says:

Agreed….. You just read my mind, except my mind didn’t articulate itself in such an artful and skillful manner as you do!

Makes perfect sense! I’ve always wondered how easy it is to convert over to wordpress from blogger. My posts date back to 2004. Is it fairly easy to convert?
